Armenian, Azerbaijani Leaders Signal Progress Toward Peace Deal at EPC Summit

Tirane: Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a brief but symbolic discussion on the sidelines of the European Political Community (EPC) Summit in Tirana on Friday, underscoring a continued commitment to finalizing a long-awaited peace agreement.

According to a statement from the Armenian government, both sides reaffirmed the importance of completing the draft peace treaty and maintaining diplomatic momentum toward a formal signing.

"The parties mutually emphasised the importance of finalising the text of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement. They discussed the current situation and underlined the need for continued progress toward signing," the press release noted.

Footage from the summit captured a spontaneous exchange between the two leaders in the corridor, with Pashinyan inviting Aliyev for coffee. “Let’s go have a coffee,” Pashinyan said. “I’ll come by after the talks,” Aliyev responded. A subsequent video showed both leaders seated and engaged in discussion, accompanied by delegations from both countries.

This interaction marks another step in the post-conflict diplomacy between the two South Caucasus nations, following their March announcement that a final text of a peace agreement had been agreed upon, aiming to end decades of hostility over the disputed Karabakh region.

While the exact timeline for signing the deal remains unclear, the continued dialogue suggests both sides are intent on moving forward.
